Updates and News from March, 1999

March 23, 1999

I paid a driveby visit to Quick Hill a couple of weeks ago and noticed a sign hanging on the barb wire fence facing CR 172 that said, "Proposed SH 47 call XXX-XXXX for more information."  I called the number and spoke to the county engineer of Williamson County at that phone number.  He said that the county is definitely putting the freeway in, pending the county's work that has yet to be done.  Such as investigating the entire hill, taking soil samples and other preparations that are normally done before building a freeway.  The estimated time between now and when the freeway will start to be built is approximately 2-7 years from now.

He was kind enough to give me the name and phone number of the organization that's in control of the property - and specifically and individual.  They're based out of Ft. Worth.  I explained to the county engineer the research that I have been doing and would like the opportunity to have access to the hill for documentation purposes.  Well, as we already know, I've already been up there and to return would be redundant.  But I would like to return to the hill, but be able to spend more time there with the owner's permission.  And perhaps take more pictures.  Anyway, I've been giving this person a call once-in-a-while and I haven't been able to catch him in the office.  I left voice mail once and he called me back and left a message for me.  So rather than do the phone tag game, I'm just calling to see if he's in.  I just called and found out that he'll be out for several days because he and his wife are having a baby.  I'll put in another update here when I know something more.

I'd like to get some pictures of the part of the hill where Kirk and Pam went walking to the dried-up swimming hole.  And anything else I can get into.
